Obituary: Frances Scruggs Harris

Frances Scruggs Harris of Cullman passed away Nov. 26, 2019 at the age of 92.

She was born Nov. 21, 1927 in Cullman to Fred and Norma Tomlinson Scruggs.

Frances grew up in the Fairview community.

On Dec. 7, 1946, Frances married the love of her life, Robert Harris. This year they would have celebrated 73 years of marriage.

She has been known for her delicious chocolate cakes. When someone was bereaved or sick they would always receive one of her cakes. Frances was blessed with the gift of music that she passed on to her children and grandchildren. She often sang solos at many events as she grew up including hundreds of weddings and funerals.

She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters Ruby Dye, Kate Elna Harbin, Evelyn Harris, and Violet Vann; brother Robert Scruggs; twin brother Frank Scruggs; grandson Janzen Easterwood; and son-in-law Keith Easterwood.

Frances is survived by her husband Robert T. Harris; daughters Janie Easterwood and Robin (Marty) Boyles; sons Gary (Linda) Harris and Jeff (Cindy) Harris; sisters-in-law Earline “Polly” (Charles) Armstrong, Ruth Duke, Sue Bice, and Norma Scruggs; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Saturday, Nov. 30, 2019 from 6-8 p.m. at Moss Service Funeral Home. The celebration of Mrs. Harris’ life will be Sunday, Dec. 1, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Northside Baptist Church with Rev. Etsel Riddle officiating. She will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service in Welti Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery.
