GOOD HOPE, Ala. – Coming off of a big win on the road against Haleyville last week, the Raiders returned home Friday night to face the Curry Yellow Jackets for their homecoming game.

Good Hope kicked the ball off to start the game and the Yellow Jackets came out and drove the ball down inside the Raiders’ 30-yard line only to turn the ball over on downs and give Good Hope the ball on the 3-yard line. The Raiders drove the ball down the field to score and make it 7-0 early in the first.

Curry got the ball back but was forced to punt immediately and the Raiders took advantage by scoring another touchdown on the ground, taking a 13-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Curry got the ball coming into the second quarter and got some positive yards only to throw an interception and give the Raiders the ball back in Curry territory. Good Hope scored a quick touchdown run after the turnover to bring the score to 20-0 early in the second.

Curry got the ball back and did more the same, punting it back to the Raiders. Good Hope then hit its first touchdown through the air and a successful 2-point conversion made it a 28-0 game.

Good Hope’s defense stopped the Yellow Jackets on fourth down to get the ball back and the Raiders threw for their second touchdown of the night, bringing the score to 35-0 at halftime.

Both teams came out struggling offensively in the second half, but each managed to find the end zone one more time and bring the final score to 42-6, Good Hope.

The Good Hope Raiders will host their last region game of the year next week against Fayette County with home field advantage on the line for the first round of playoffs.

After Friday night’s game, Good Hope Head Coach Alan Scott said, “These guys came out in the first half and executed plays, followed the assignment and showed what they needed to work on going forward. Overall, it was a great day to be a Raider.”

When asked what was in store for next week, he replied, “Just getting ready for Fayette and preparing for one of the biggest games of the year. We hope to have covered all we needed and just be ready.”
