Man charged after woman found murdered in Bethel

BETHEL, Ala. – Cullman County authorities are investigating a murder in the Bethel community after a body was discovered Friday, Sept. 20.

The victim was identified by Cullman County Coroner Jeremy L. Kilpatrick as Angela McCoy, 49, of Bethel. McCoy had only lived in Cullman County for three weeks, according to the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO). She was previously a resident of Hoover.

Jason Brent McCoy, 44, of Hoover has been arrested and charged with her murder.

Angela McCoy was found at a residence she was renting in the 300 block of County Road 1130. Her body was discovered after investigators and deputies did a welfare check. CCSO investigators worked all day Friday to quickly identify Jason McCoy as the suspect and made the arrest late Friday night. 

Authorities do not know yet how long the victim had been deceased before the body was found.

Jason McCoy was located in Alabaster.

He remains in the Cullman County Detention Center on a $50,000 cash bond.
