CULLMAN, Ala. – A man who was seriously injured late Thursday afternoon when he was struck by a pickup truck on St. Joseph Drive Northwest near the intersection with Brunner Street Northwest in the city of Cullman has died. Cullman County Coroner Jeremy L. Kilpatrick confirmed that Timmy Philyaw, 52, of Cullman died after being transported to UAB Hospital.

Cullman Police Department Traffic Homicide Investigator Sgt. Joey Duncan said Philyaw was transported to Cullman Regional, where an Air Evac Lifeteam helicopter flew him to UAB Hospital in Birmingham.

The incident happened at approximately 4:15 p.m., with the roadway closed until 5:45 p.m.

“At approximately 4:15, the Traffic Homicide Unit was notified to respond to a vehicle versus pedestrian crash near the intersection of St. Joseph Drive and Brunner Street,” said Duncan. “When we arrived, we started investigating the crash. It was a serious injury and serious damage.”

Duncan said the cause of the crash is unknown at this time, but said Philyaw walked off a property and into the roadway. The speed limit at the crash site is 35 mph, but it is unknown if speed was a factor.

The driver of the truck, a Chevrolet C-1500, was not injured. Duncan said the driver, identified as Bobby Fuller, 65, of Cullman, remained at the scene.

Responders included the Cullman Police Department, Cullman Fire Rescue and Cullman EMS.
