CULLMAN, Ala. – A Cullman man died Friday morning in a house fire along the 800 block of Scenic Drive Northeast in the city of Cullman. Cullman County Coroner Jeremy L. Kilpatrick identified the victim as Jonathan Patrick McKoy, 45. He said McKoy’s body has been sent to Huntsville for autopsy.

Cullman Fire Rescue Chief Brian Bradberry said the fire was called in at approximately 11:33 a.m.

“There was heavy fire in the structure when we arrived,” he said. “We do have one fatality. The (Alabama) State Fire Marshal is investigating, along with the Cullman Police Department.”

The chief said the scene was under control at 3:15 p.m. Friday, but two units remained at the property battling hot spots.

“I would like to thank the departments from Johnson’s Crossing, Vinemont-Providence, Bethsadia and Good Hope…I hope I’m not forgetting anyone…that helped cover the city stations while we were so busy,” said an exhausted Bradberry. (Berlin also assisted.)

“We want to keep them in our prayers,” he said of the family.

The Alabama State Fire Marshal’s Office was on the scene actively investigating as of 3:15 p.m. Friday.
