CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman County Commission on Tuesday morning had a few special visitors to its meeting as Circuit Judge Gregory Nicholas stopped by with Brooksie the Court Dog on her first day of work and students from the Wallace State Community College Business 298 class dropped in to observe.

Nicholas brought the 2-year-old labradoodle to meet Chairman Kenneth Walker while instructor Terri McGriff Waldrop said she encourages her students to get involved by visiting different community events and civic meetings.

Said McGriff Waldrop, “I just want them involved in things that may be a little intimidating to go to in the beginning. Once they graduate, we don’t really have that contact, so we want to network.”

In its meeting, the commission:

  • Authorized resolution 2019-26 for FY-2020 third-party contracts for CARTS (Cullman Area Rural Transportation System)
  • Authorized Walker to sign an amendment to the agreement for lease construction and maintenance of the Smith Lake Park public boat ramp
  • Awarded the Stony Lonesome OHV Park storm shelter bid to Aqua Marine Enterprises, Inc. for $146,895
  • Authorized the purchase of two Kubota tractors from Huntsville Tractor & Equipment for the road department for $52,533.58 each.
  • Extended the lawn care and maintenance contract to Pro Lawn Unlimited for $21,900
  • Extended the contract for jail supplies with Central Paper and North Alabama Chemical
  • Accepted the bid for a 35-month lease of a wheel loader from Warrior Tractor for $2,216.64 per month
  • Accepted the bid for a new train locomotive for Sportsman Lake Park for $50,000 from Western Train Company in California

The next commission meeting is scheduled for July 23, 2019 at 10 a.m.
