Laura Jean Kinard Wallace, 70, of Haleyville passed away on April 7, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family.

Jean was born on July 5, 1948 in Double Springs, Alabama. Jean was a member of Church of Christ. She attended Winston County High School and went on to work at the Nursing Home in housekeeping for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, dancing and listening to Elvis. Her daughter affectionately called her “Ladybug.” Ms. Wallace was always there if someone needed a helping hand. She loved her family and never tired of helping them and spending time with them. At age 53 she had a terrible stroke that left her paralyzed on her right side. She was told she would be bedridden but proved everyone wrong as she learned to walk and feed herself again even though she had to use her left side. She only learned to speak a few words but let us know what she meant. She made us all so proud of her, and we could only hope to do half of what she did in life.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Nichols Funeral Home in Haleyville, where services will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. Pastor Johnny Sims will officiate. Burial will be in Frost Chapel Cemetery.

She is survived by her daughter, Carmel Wallace Martin and her husband James; brother, Troy Lee Kinard and his wife Mary; sisters, Lois Kinard Hawkins and Linda Lou Kinard Taylor; she was Maw Maw Jean to 2 grandchildren, Brandon Lee Cagle and Lisa LaShae Martin; and 3 great grandchildren, Austin, Jaray and Jazaveon; and honorary grandson, Karlee Straub.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie Lee Kinard and Evalina Flake Kinard; daughter, Lora Dean Wallace; brothers, Garvis Kinard, David Junior Kinard and Donald Wayne Kinard; sister, Minnie Lou Kinard; and former husband, Franklin Vann “Buddy” Wallace.
