PREP SOFTBALL/BASEBALL: Cold Springs walks it off against Holly Pond in 9 innings, Monday night scoring wrap-up

BREMEN, Ala. – It took nine innings to settle things between Cold Springs and Holly Pond on Monday and it was a Crimson Gann single that drove in the winning run and sealed the walk-off win for the Lady Eagles. AK Voce got the start on the mound and tossed all nine innings for Cold Springs, racking up 13 strikeouts in the win.

Holly Pond loaded the bases with no outs to start the top of the first, but Voce fanned the next three batters to get Cold Springs out of the inning. She collected two more strikeouts in the top of the second, but the Lady Broncos got on the board in the third.

Madison Heatherly doubled off the fence in center field to put Holly Pond up 1-0 in the third and the lead stretched to 2-0 when Madyson Rickman came home to score on a double steal in the top of the fourth. The lead didn’t hold for long. A 2-run double from Cold Springs’ Victoria Freeman tied the game at 2 going into the fifth inning.

Heatherly led off the fifth with another double but she was stranded at second and neither team found the scoreboard again until the eighth. The Lady Eagles loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the seventh but couldn’t find a way to get a runner home and the game went into extra innings.

The pressure shifted to the Cold Springs dugout in the top of the eighth when Rickman connected with a 2-run homerun over the left-center field wall and put the Lady Broncos on top 4-2 with three outs between them and a road win. Unfortunately for Holly Pond fans, the Lady Eagles weren’t going away and Kylon Hamby ripped a 2-run double into center field to tie the game at 4 and send us to the ninth.

Voce was able to keep the Lady Broncos scoreless in the top of the ninth and hold onto the momentum for Cold Springs. With Morgan Chasteen standing at third, Crimson Gann laced a hard ground ball to the shortstop who couldn’t quite come up with the play and Chasteen came home to score and win it for it the Lady Eagles in the ninth 5-4.

Cold Springs will look to keep building on the momentum when they host Addison Tuesday and the Lady Broncos will try to bounce back when they travel to New Hope on Thursday.

Other Monday night scores:

Cullman 9 – Grissom 7 (baseball)

The Bearcats were on top 3-2 going into the fifth inning against Grissom when they bats started to come alive for both teams. Cullman plated three in the fifth and three in the sixth to hold off a late surge from the Tigers and win it on the road 9-7.

Peyton Colvard led the way offensively with three hits and three RBIs while AJ Miller collected three hits in the win as well. Niklas Fondren (one RBI) and Brennen Norton each recorded a pair of hits for the ‘Cats.

Meek 6 – Decatur Heritage 4 (softball)

After three scoreless innings, the Lady Tigers exploded with four runs in the bottom of the fourth, but Decatur Heritage scored four in the top of the seventh to tie things up. Meek responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning to pull away and win it 6-4.

Bailee Fincher was 4-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs in the win and Emma Fincher (two hits) drove in a pair of runs for the Lady Tigers as well.

Vinemont 6 – Locust Fork 5 (baseball)

Addison 13 – Winston County 3 (baseball)

Athens Bible 12 – St. Bernard 0 (baseball)
