BOAZ, Ala. – Cullman hit the road for a matchup against Boaz on Saturday and racked up 18 hits in a 15-6 win over the Pirates. The ‘Cats divided up the pitching duties five ways on Saturday, with Brennen Norton and Cooper Bowen each tossing a pair of innings and Garrett Evans, Seth Gable and Cole Fuller each recording an inning as well.

Head coach Brent Patterson was happy to see his team come out and play a well-rounded game and put together a big day offensively.

“Several guys had good at bats early and we were able to get an early lead. I thought we were good with two strikes and taking what their pitcher was giving us. We threw five pitchers and only walked one while playing solid defensively. That will usually give you a good chance to win games,” Patterson said. “We are just trying to get more consistent in every area and try to keep improving. I’m proud of how they came out and played today. It was a team effort and that’s the type of game we need to play.”

The ‘Cats swung it well against Boaz and plated five runs in the top of the first. An RBI single from Peyton Colvard made it 1-0 and Brady Patterson stretched the lead to 4-0 with a 3-run bomb over the right field fence. Just a few pitches later, Ben Hollis followed Patterson with a homerun of his own that put Cullman on top 5-0 going into the bottom of the first.

Another Colvard single made it a 6-0 game in the top of the second but the Pirates were able to cut the lead to 6-2 in the bottom half of the inning. Hollis tacked on another run for the Bearcats with a sacrifice fly in the top of the third and Cullman began to really extend its lead in the fourth.

RBI singles from Norton, Dylon Wallace and Hollis put the ‘Cats up 10-3 and a sacrifice fly from Nicholas Braswell gave them an 11-3 advantage going into the bottom of the fourth. Boaz trimmed the lead to 11-4 in the bottom of the fifth, but an error and a bases-loaded walk put two more runs on the board for Cullman in the sixth. An RBI double from Patterson and another run scored on an error made it 15-4 and put the game out of reach for the Pirates. The Bearcats held on to win it 15-6.

There were several multi-hit performances in the win for Cullman, led by Colvard who finished 4-for-5 with a pair of RBIs. Patterson (four RBIs), Hollis (three RBIs) and Norton (one RBI) each posted three hits for the Bearcats.

Cullman moves to 13-10 on the season and will try to keep its bats hot on Monday at Grissom.
