HANCEVILLE – In Monday night’s second County Tournament matchup, seventh-seeded Vinemont faced off against the second-seeded Fairview Lady Aggies. The Lady Aggies knocked off the Lady Eagles 59-30 and will face the winner of Tuesday night’s matchup between (3) Hanceville and (6) Good Hope in the semi-final round.

Fairview took some of the drama out of this contest by scoring the first eight points of the game and holding the Lady Eagles scoreless for the first six minutes of the opening frame.

Fairview led things 10-4 after the first quarter and made it 15-4 by the midway point of the second. Points were tough to come by for both squads in the second period, but the Lady Aggies stayed in front 20-13 at the half.

Neither team was able to score for the first two and a half minutes of the third quarter until Katie Ball sank a free throw to put Fairview ahead 21-13. Molly McKelvy followed her up with a 3-pointer and two free throws from Payton Golden on the Lady Aggies’ next possession made it 26-13 Fairview midway through the third. The Lady Aggies continued to create separation in the third, generating turnovers and converting them into easy buckets. Ball hit one from behind the line with less than a minute to play in the period and gave Fairview a 38-18 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Fairview continued to pull away in the fourth, opening the quarter on a 7-0 run. Sadie Stanley knocked down a three midway through the period to cut the lead to 47-26 but a four-point play by Daisy Manasco restored the Lady Aggies’ lead on their next possession. From that point on, it was never in doubt for Fairview as the Lady Aggies went on to win it 59-30.

McKelvy led Fairview with 14 points in the win, followed by Manasco with 12, Jacy Gorham with 10 and Ball with nine. For the Lady Eagles, Stanley led the way with 12 points, Kanasta Daniel finished with nine and Bailey Preiss posted six.

The Lady Aggies will be back in action when they take on the winner of Hanceville and Good Hope in the semi-final round Thursday night at 7:30.
