PREP BASEBALL: Meek falls to Lynn in Winston County Baseball Tournament:

ARLEY – Meek looked to advance to the championship game in the Winston County Baseball Tournament as they took on Lynn on Friday. The Tigers stuck with the Bears for most of the game, but the last two innings proved costly for Meek as Lynn added five runs in each to take the game, 14-3.

Lynn got the scoring started in the top of the first inning, stealing home twice to take a 2-0 lead. The Bears added two more in the fourth on a Chance Majors two-run single. After a combined four batters reached base in the first three innings, the Tigers finally got their offense going in the bottom of the fourth. Luke Sherer led off the inning with a double to center field, then one out later, Sherer stole third and Jonah Johnson drove him in with an RBI groundout to make it a 4-1 game.

Alden Archer led off the Meek fifth with a single to left field, then he stole second and moved to third on a groundout by Haydon Twilley. Stuart Waldrep hit an RBI single up the middle as they cut the Bear lead to two at 4-2. But the last two innings belonged to Lynn and the Tigers couldn't slow them down; an error by Nelson Martin at first led to the first Bear run of the inning, then Majors added a two-run double, Chadwick Tittle hit an RBI infield single and Cameron Baldy hit an RBI triple to make it a 9-2 game.

Trevor Hockett started the scoring for Lynn in the seventh with an RBI single, then Lance Harris added an RBI single, Majors hit an RBI single and Tittle added a two-run double to widen the deficit for Meek to 12 at 14-2. Sherer hit an RBI groundout to make it 14-3, but the Tigers didn't get any closer, falling by that same score.

Waldrep had two hits and an RBI for Meek. Sherer added a hit, an RBI and he scored a run. Johnson added an RBI of his own. Archer (one run scored), Twilley (one run scored), Martin and Austin Bowling each collected a hit. The Tigers fall to 4-11 overall and will finish the regular season at home against Winston County on Monday.
