CULLMAN – Cullman Fire Rescue Division Chief Brian Bradberry released the following statement Tuesday afternoon concerning plans to hold an official opening of the city’s new fire station Tuesday:

“Due to the extensive storm damage in our community from the recent inclement weather, we chose to delay the ribbon cutting ceremony scheduled today for Cullman Fire Rescue Station 3.

“All of our focus is currently on helping our community and maintaining an efficient emergency response during the recovery process.

“We would like the community to know Fire Station 3 is currently operational, and was very beneficial to the response challenges during the storm.  Fire Station 3 along with our improved minimum staffing levels helped us to provide fire units in all three fire station territories during the storms.

“In addition, utilizing our Fire Department Command Center was critical to coordinating fire department response to approximately 40 storm related incidents in a two-hour period.

“Cullman County EMA was directly impacted by the storm, but quickly resumed operations. Seeing firsthand how storms can affect our infrastructure helped reaffirm our decision to include a Command Center at Fire Station 3 that provided additional support.

“Our community has proven that we are here for each other and we are resilient. We just ask that everyone keep the community in their thoughts and prayers during the recovery process.”
