PREP BASKETBALL: Aggies upset Cold Springs Eagles

FAIRVIEW – The Fairview Aggies hosted the Cold Springs Eagles in hoops action Tuesday night.

The 10-3 Lady Aggies took on the 5-4 Lady Eagles in the first game of the night, and the Lady Aggies started the game on a 7-0 run before the Eagles got on the board with a 3-pointer from Camryn Crider to make the score 7-3 Aggies. Elizabeth Hill banked a 3-pointer to cut the lead 7-6, before both teams hit the next two baskets, and the game was tied at 9-9. The Lady Aggies broke open on an 11-0 run and finished the first quarter up 20-9.

Fairview continued to dominate the boards before Cold Springs’ Kinley Campbell scored, making it 29-11. The score at the half was 33-18, Fairview.

The Lady Aggies controlled the game til the end. It was 46-21 after three, and final score was 52-30

Abbi Taylor lead Fairview with 17 points, followed by Taylor Ann Yeager with 10, Payton Golden and Valentina Klocker with nine and Taylor Vincent with six.

Hill lead the Eagles with 13 points, followed by Kylon Hamby with nine.

Fairview 66, Cold Springs 54 (Boys)

The Aggies started out on an 8-0 run before Hunter McClendon hit a basket to cut the lead to 8-2. At the end of the first, the Aggies were up 17-9.

The Eagles came out in the second and cut the lead to two before going on a 10-0 run. It was 30-25 Fairview at the half.

Cold Springs tied the game at 31-31 in the third. Aggie Bryson Fletcher made a 2-pointer to retake the lead 33-31. Eagle Francisco Ayala tied it back up at 33-33 before the Aggies went on a 7-0 run and Fairview’s Hunter McClendon went 1-of-2 from the line and the score was 40-34. The Eagles made it 40-39 at the end of the third.

The Eagles took the lead for the first time in the game, 42-40, and it went back and forth until the Aggies made it 50-48 with 3:35 left in the game. Ayala and McClendon hit back-to-back 3-pointers and the Aggies went full throttle, ending the contest on top, 66-54.

Sawyer Daniel lead Fairview with 13 points; Fletcher, Cameron Guthrie, Caleb White all had 11 and Luke Yarbrough got 10.

The Eagles were led by Hunter McClendon with 23 points, Dylan Byrd and Logan Rice had nine, and Adam Hill, Micah Calvert and Ayala finished with four.
