KIMBERLY – The Fairview Aggies were back in action Friday, after having a bye last week, and took on region foe, the Mortimer Jordan Blue Devils. The Aggies came up short, 34-3

The Aggies elected to receive the ball to open the game. Scoot Bennett returned the ball 24 yards and put the Aggies at the 26-yard. Fairview, however, couldn't string anything together as Grant Howard could only salvage 3 yards before an Aggie fourth down.

Fairview elected to punt, and Blue Devils defensive end Hayden Finney came up with the block, taking the ball into the end zone for a touchdown, a 21-yard return that gave Mortimer Jordan a 7-0 early lead.

Looking to avenge the touchdown, Howard returned the kickoff 64 yards to give the Aggies great field position. But again, the Aggies couldn't figure out the Blue Devils’ defense. The Aggies mustered up 3 yards and came up short going for it on fourth down.

The Blue Devils took over on downs and had momentum with quarterback Kourtlan Marsh and running backs Hunter Bartlett, Garek Hall, and Daniel Rouse rushing for a total of 44 yards. Later in the drive Hall fumbled and Bennett recovered to give the Aggies the ball. Fairview put together a decent drive with Aggie running backs Howard and Tyvn Ellis rushing for a combined 12 yards before quarterback Dayne Black was picked off by Landon Rogers, who ran for 73 yards following the interception.

Mortimer Jordan rushed for 1 yard before Fairview’s Mason Black pick off Marsh and returned it for 26 yards. Black started off the drive with a pass intended for Ethan Holland but was intercepted by Julius Washington for the Blue Devils. The first quarter abruptly ended by a score of 7-0 Mortimer Jordan.

The Blue Devils started off the second with running back Garret Helm rushing for 19 yards on two carries. Then Marsh ran for 11 yards on a quarterback keeper. Things were set up nicely for the Blue Devils, as Marsh handed the ball off to Helm who rushed 8 yards into the end zone for a touchdown with 11:04 left in the half. The score was now 14-0 in Mortimer Jordan's favor.

On the kickoff Howard returned the ball 85 yards to bring the Aggies to the 10-yard line. Black and Ellis only rushed for a combined 2 yards before Jaxon Swann kicked a 24-yard field goal. The score was now 14-3.

The Blue Devils took over on the 27-yard line. After only getting 7 yards, the Blue Devils ran a fake punt that went for 47 yards and a first down. But Mortimer Jordan couldn't convert on fourth down, and the Aggies took over.

Following an Aggie three-and-out, the Blue Devils got the ball back, marching 59 yards and scoring on a Helm 27-yard touchdown run with 1:50 left in the half. The score was 21-3 Mortimer Jordan.

The Aggies had a promising drive going before the half ended with Howard, Holland and Bennett racking up a combined 26 yards before Black was sacked for a loss of 13 yards. Going into halftime the score was 21-3.

The Aggies kicked off to begin the second half, and Helm returned the kick 67 yards for a touchdown putting Mortimer Jordan on top 28-3.

The Aggies controlled the ball most of the third quarter, but failed to score. The score was unchanged heading into the fourth.

Mortimer Jordan held the ball for almost eight minutes before scoring on a Marsh 39-yard touchdown run with 4:41 left in the fourth. On the drive, the Blue Devils marched 91 yards.

The Aggies couldn't get anything going on their final shot at the end zone and failed to convert on fourth down, allowing the Blue Devils to take the victory formation.

Mortimer Jordan came out on top 34-3.

Aggie running back Howard had a total of 201 yards, leading Fairview's offense. Black rushed for 52 yards and Ellis also had a big night for the Aggies.

For the Blue Devils, running back Helm had 175 yards total with Marsh and Hall having big nights as well.

The Aggies will travel to Priceville next week and take on the Bulldogs.
