WEST POINT –  West Point hosted Brewer in Monday night volleyball action, and looked to get a big win on its home court. It was not meant to be, however. The Lady Warriors lost the match 2-1.

In game one, West Point got off to a quick start, going up 3-1, but the  Lady Patriots tied it up at 3. It was a back-and-forth affair for a bit, but Brewer took over after the Lady Warriors cut the deficit to 15-10, scoring the final 10 points of the game, including big aces and a big kill from Leisha Steger, and points from Chloe Danylo, to take the first game.

But West Point came out determined in game two, despite falling behind early, 3-1, as big kills and points by Alexia Shadix, Josie Huckaby, Mackenzie Carter, and Molly Pendley, gave the Lady Warriors an 8-5 lead. Brewer scored the next four points to retake the lead at 9-8, but West Point turned up the heat from there, outscoring the Lady Patriots, 13-1, to blow the game wide open, taking it, 25-15, to tie the series at one game apiece heading into the final game.

Game three was back and forth to start out. After three straight aces by Evaiah Burrows gave Brewer a 6-2 lead, West Point looked to get a run started, getting within two points four times, including 13-10 late in the game, but big points by Carly Fairbanks and Steger clinched the 15-10 win, and West Point fell in the series, 2-1.

West Point got big performances from almost its whole roster, especially during the big second-game run. This team is very experienced with a combined eight juniors and seniors on the squad, and the younger players showed a lot of promise during the three-game set.

The Lady Warriors have a tri-match at home Tuesday against Curry at 4:30 and Good Hope at 6:30.
