CULLMAN – Day one of the 2017 McKenzie ASA Classic Archery Tournament is in the books and hundreds of archers and their families have made their way to Cullman to compete. The event is being held on St. Bernard's campus this year and St. Bernard's administration is very happy to work with the city of Cullman in hosting this event.

Said Father Marcus Voss of St. Bernard, “The campus is well suited for the kind of venue needed for the events planned for those who are participating in this year's program. St. Bernard looks forward to welcoming families from all over the country who will be here to participate in the competition."

One of the participants, Shane Bragg, traveled 11 hours from Michigan to compete. "Professionally I've only been involved for a few years but I've been shooting a bow for 28 years.” Bragg said. "I've been travelling to archery tournaments for over 20 years competing in national tournaments."

Bragg's only real adjustment has been dealing with the local heat and humidity. "Down here it gets pretty hot. The humidity has been real bad down here in the past but hopefully this weekend will be a little cooler."

The main event of day one was the Zebra Team Shoot, featuring dozens of competitors. The winning team featured Ty Atkins as the pro member, along with Patrick McGowan and Karen Rickles. They each won $80 for finishing first and edged out a four-team tie for second place.

There are still many more events to come as the tournament continues into this weekend before it wraps up on Sunday.
