CULLMAN – If you noticed a heavy police presence in the 700 block of Third Avenue Southeast early this afternoon, there is no cause for alarm.

Cullman City Police Chief Kenny Culpepper said, "We received a call of shots fired, and the caller said there were multiple shots fired, so we were concerned." When cops arrived, the situation was not as serious it could have been.

"What happened was there was someone living upstairs and one in an apartment downstairs, and they don't get along. The person downstairs discharged a firearm, but it was an accidental discharge into the floor. Not the floor of the apartment upstairs, but into the downstairs floor."

Culpepper says no one was injured, but that the downstairs neighbor could be facing negligence charges.

"The person who discharged the firearm was intoxicated," he said.
