GOOD HOPE – Good Hope High School received a $10,000 check Monday from the Alabama Mountains, Rivers & Valleys Resource Conservation & Development Council for sidewalks and parking at the baseball field that meet the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines.

Along with assistance from the Cullman County Soil & Water Conservation District, the necessary developments were made possible. A paved sidewalk was constructed around the backstop and concession facility and two handicapped parking spots were constructed in the parking lot.

Physically handicapped fans now have a safe place to load and unload, as well as an easy access to the concession stand and restrooms.

The park is now much more accessible to those with physical limitations. Thanks to these upgrades, attending Good Hope baseball games can be an easier and more enjoyable experience for everyone. Improved attendance has been reported, as now there is the convenience of loading and unloading on pavement close to the playing field.

Currently, Good Hope High School is the only school in Cullman County to meet ADA guidelines. Good Hope will be an example to follow in the county for years to come.

The check was presented by Mike Roden, executive director of the Alabama Mountains, Rivers & Valleys Resource Conservation & Development Council, Cullman County Soil & Water Conservation District representatives Robert Harbison and Edwin Carter, Good Hope baseball representative Sue Craig, Good Hope High School Principal John Hood, Good Hope baseball coach Mitch Witcher, Rep. Corey Harbison, R-Good Hope and Good Hope Mayor Jerry Bartlett.
