CULLMAN – Next Friday night, the Cullman Elks Lodge is hosting something delicious: A Low Country Boil. On March 31 from 6-8 p.m., guests can feast for $15 per plate and eat in or carry out.

The fundraising event is an effort to support the Elks Scholarship Fund, and is led by member Dale Ball.

“Well I wanted to start something different,” Ball said. “I wanted to kick off fall and spring, but we were competing with the football games in the fall, so even the people who were interested in supporting us could not do so because they were at the games watching their kids.”

The meal will consist of a half-pound of shrimp, smoked sausage, sweet corn and red potatoes slow cooked in beer and Old Bay seasoning, served with slaw, homemade hushpuppies and tea. The alternative options for those who are medically or otherwise averse to shellfish are a fish filet or hamburger steak.

The Elks Lodge awards two $1,000 scholarships each year to Cullman County students, one to a male and one to a female.

In order to ensure everyone who wants a plate is able to have one, those who wish to attend the Low Country Boil should RSVP to 256-339-0098 by this Friday March 24.

Cullman Elks Lodge is located at 1525 Brantley Ave. NW.
