CULLMAN – On a chilly Thursday night, the Cullman Lady Bearcats welcomed the Brewer Lady Patriots to Oliver Woodard Stadium for a little soccer action.

From the opening kick-off to the final whistle it was all Cullman as they dominated the game, controlling the ball and keeping it on their half of the field for the majority of the match, dropping the Lady Patriots 5-1.

It didn’t take the Lady Cats long to go on the attack. Just 2:10 into the match, Jazmin Gante put a shot on goal that barely missed sliding past the Lady Patriots goalie. Just three minutes later the Lady Cats put another shot on goal, this time off the foot of Abby Branham, that found the far post for the goal, giving Cullman the 1-0 lead.

Less than four minutes later Branham recorded her second goal when she blasted a shot at the Brewer keeper that had so much heat in it that it hit the keepers gloved hands and continued into the back of the goal to give Cullman a 2-0 lead.

Branham completed the hat trick 2:18 later when she booted in a goal with 29 minutes left to play in the first half.  Cullman put three more shots on goal in the half but none found the net, as the Lady Bearcats took a 3-0 lead going to the half.

Cullman picked up in the second where they left off in the first, putting unrelenting pressure on the Brewer keeper, putting eight shots on goal before Della Kelley scooted a shot under the lay-out of the Lady Patriots’ keeper for the goal and a 4-0 Cullman lead.

Brewer got on the board for the first and only time when Natalie Hatfield was able to sneak a shot past the Cullman keeper. Four minutes later Kelley added another Cullman goal to push the score to 5-1 and seal the deal for Cullman.

The Lady Bearcats improve to 8-1-1 in the regular season and will next take the pitch against Madison County Saturday at 2 p.m.
