WEST POINT – The West Point High Fine Arts program is up to something, and it’s good! On Dec. 10 and 11 in the West Point auditorium, West Point High School Director of Bands Ty Parker and his students will present “All I Want for Christmas is You,” a holiday concert with a stunning light show.

Admission is only $5, and there will be four shows for the public: 5 and 7 p.m. on Saturday Dec. 10 and 2 and 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 11. The proceeds will go to benefit the Warrior Band, Christmas Love and Childhaven.

“We are going to have a special show on Friday afternoon at school,” Parker said. “This will be school-wide only, and then the shows on Saturday (and Sunday) will be open to the public. This is to give all the elementary students that normally would not have exposure to the arts an opportunity to see what we do.”

Parker sees the event as a collaboration between all the arts programs within the school.

“We will be using a new light-show software which the students will learn,” he said. “We will also feature the dance-line and the choir in the show.”

Parker is always excited to bring performance arts to the community, and he says he is even more excited to celebrate the holiday season with the community.

“A portion of the attendance fees will go to Christmas Love and Childhaven,” Parker explained. “We have been having fun and are excited to prepare these classic songs for the community.”

Parker says he sees these performances as an opportunity to bring the community together around something other than football games, which not all students are able to attend.

“Football is great, but not everyone can attend those,” he said. “This gives the students and the whole community, really, a chance to come together and celebrate the season and appreciate all the hard work these kids have done.”
