CULLMAN – Cullman Mayor Max A. Townson proclaimed today, Sept. 16, as The American Legion Day this morning at Cullman City Hall. Townson was joined by members of Cullman's American Legion Post 4 and the American Legion Auxiliary.

OFFICIAL PROCLAMATION

Whereas, America is the land of freedom, preserved and protected willingly and freely by citizen soldiers; and,

Whereas, the American Legion was chartered by Congress in 1919 on September 16th as a wartime veterans organization based on the four pillars of Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation, National Security, Americanism, and Children & Youth; and,

Whereas, the members of the American Legion are dedicated to upholding the ideals of freedom and democracy while working to make a difference in the lives of fellow Americans; and,

Whereas, September 16, 2016, provides an opportunity to recognize Legionnaires for their many contributions in our community, state, and nation, on the 97th year of their existence; and,

Whereas, the City of Cullman recognizes the service of the members of our local American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary, and we commend them for their dedication and service.

Now, therefore, I, Max A. Townson Mayor of the City of Cullman, do hereby proclaim September 16, 2016,

THE AMERICAN LEGION DAY

in the City of Cullman and urge all citizens to support American Legion Post 4 and their Auxiliary organization, and to express their gratitude to our local Legionnaires for their devotion to our veterans and the tireless work they do to advocate patriotism and honor throughout our community.

In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cullman to be affixed on this, the 16th day of September, 2016.

/s/ Max A. Townson, Mayor
