HANCEVILLE – Individuals who didn’t get into their first-choice health program at Wallace State or those who are interested in learning about programs with open admission for Fall 2016 have the opportunity to meet with program directors during an informational meeting next week.

The Health Science Division will hold a Second Opportunity Meeting on Tuesday, June 28, at 10:30 a.m., on the 12th floor of the James C. Bailey Center. Representatives from numerous health programs will be on hand to talk about their programs and help students apply for entry for the Fall 2016 semester.

“Students may be unaware of the options available in the Health Science division,” Dean Lisa German said. “Students who prefer direct contact with patients might do well with hands-on programs such as Emergency Medical Services, Medical Assistant, Patient Care Specialist and Therapeutic Massage.  Non-traditional Health Science programs still available that also have direct interaction with clients are Child Development and Human Services.  Students desiring a more behind the scene career might consider Medical Lab Technician, Pharmacy Technician, Health Information Technology, or Medical Coding.

“This Second Opportunity meeting is to let students know they do have options for this fall,” she added. “Rather than thinking there’s nothing they can do for the next year, they have the opportunity to enter other programs that will help them reach their ultimate goal of employment or possibly even lead them down a path they hadn’t considered before.”

Health Science programs that will be represented at Second Opportunity include:

  • Child Development
  • Emergency Medical Services
  • Health Information Technology/Medical Coding
  • Human Services
  • Medical Assistant
  • Medical Lab Technician
  • Patient Care Specialist
  • Pharmacy Technology
  • Therapeutic Massage
