HANCEVILLE – The Hanceville City Council held a regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday evening, with the biggest items of business being a large AT&T bill, the renewal of a Zoning Board member’s term and an upcoming Swam John’s Dinner for the fire department.

Councilor Jimmy Sawyer opened the meeting with prayer after the Mayor Kenneth Nail welcomed the guests and called the meeting to order. With no public comments nor presentations, the agenda moved to new business.

The renewal of Zoning Board of Adjustments member Barbara Dunn’s term was passed.

Having received an AT&T bill in the amount of $6,082.19 for damage occurring when a “trackhoe cut a cable that was properly marked” on Nov. 19 of last year near Section Road and Highway 31, the council opted to table paying the invoice until the next meeting in April. Although the bill has been filed with the city’s liability insurance, no answer has yet been received. Dan Willingham, city attorney, suggested that a memo be sent to AT&T making this notation as the next meeting will be on April 14, four days past the bill’s payment is due.

Fire Chief Rodger Green encouraged everyone to attend a Swamp John’s dinner at the Hanceville Fire Department on April 2 from 4-7 p.m.

The next council meeting will be at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 14 with the work session beginning at 6:30 p.m. The next Downtown-Main Street Revitalization Project meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 12 at 6 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend.
