CULLMAN – Many residents of Cullman County look forward to each Memorial Day and Labor Day, but not necessarily for the holiday itself but for the famous semi-annual steak sale.

“We’ve had a lot of people through today (Friday),” said John Briscoe, President of Cullman County Cattlemen and Cattlewomen Association. “As fast as we can pull them off the grill they are already being packaged and sold. So far, this has been a great day and we hope it continues tomorrow.”

The sale will begin back up at 10 a.m. Saturday and will go until 4 p.m. Briscoe said the association expects to sell close to 7,000 sandwiches over the weekend.

“We’ve already jumped out to a great start, so I believe we will easily sell 4,500 steaks,” he said. “If people keep coming out tomorrow like they did today then we may sell over 7,000 steak sandwiches. This (Friday) morning we had 70 people waiting in line before we ever started to sell.”

The 5/16" thick steaks, or what Briscoe calls 'Choice Ribeye,' are purchased from Brickyard Meat Processing.

“We just appreciate everyone who has come out today and to the businesses who always buy lunch for their employees when we have the sale,” he said. “The money will go to help furnish money to local schools, along with helping us to promote the local beef industry.”

Carmike Cinemas is located at 1950 Marketplatz Center, Cullman, AL 35055.
