CULLMAN – The weather is warming up nicely and with warm weather comes all the fresh fruits and vegetables for which Cullman County is famous. Thankfully there’s a place in town where people can stop and shop for all sorts of homegrown goodies: Festhalle Market Platz.

The Farmers Market is now open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. through October. Farmers, chefs and local crafters come from all over the county to sell their products. Keeping it in Cullman is the common thread that makes the place a success. By shopping at the Farmers Market citizens are able to support local farmers and obtain fresher produce, which is a super nutritious option. Festhalle also gives consumers the ability to know the source of their produce and connect with others in the community.

“I sell my baked goods here on Thursdays and Saturdays,” said Cathie Richert, owner of Cathie’s Baked Goods. “I sell small cakes, sourdough bread, pound cakes, banana bread, pecan pies and jams. I also do a lot of craft shows after the market season, so I bring some of that stuff with me too,” she grinned. Cathie also takes orders for larger cakes and desserts from her booth at the Farmers Market. Cathie can be reached by calling 256-338-2198.

This time of year, strawberries are all the rage. Following the Strawberry Festival, the Farmers Market is still covered up with the bright red berries.

“We are here every time the Farmers Market is open. We sell a lot of produce,” CeCe Livingston of Golden Farms explained. “Right now we just have strawberries, but we’ve planted tomatoes, cantaloupe, peas and corn, which should be ready soon.”

Each person who has a booth at the Farmers Market is a character. Although some vendors offer similar items there, each farmer is unique and enjoys what they do.

For great food that has been grown locally the Festhalle Market Platz is a one-stop shop for healthy food and lots of fun.

The Cullman Festhalle Farmers Market is located at 209 1st Ave NE, Cullman, Alabama 35055.
