CULLMAN – Cullman Mayor Max A. Townson recently proclaimed the month of April 2015 “Fair Housing Month” in the City of Cullman in recognition of the importance of fair housing to our way of life.

April 11, 2015, marked the 47th anniversary of the passage of the United States Fair Housing Law, Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968, which enunciated a national policy of fair housing without regard to race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. The effective implementation of this policy depends on the cooperation and action of all levels of government.

“We want Cullman to be a warm and welcoming community for everyone,” said Mayor Townson. “That’s why we fully support fair housing policies, because we want to have a community where everyone has equal freedom and opportunity to good housing as well as to good schools and job opportunities.”

Mayor Townson urges citizens to always obey the letter and spirit of the Fair Housing Law to ensure that everyone has the individual rights guaranteed to them by the United States Constitution.

Accepting the proclamation from Mayor Townson were Gail Busbey, Amy Handley, and Stormy Bland – all from the City Clerk’s Office.
