DODGE CITY – On December 31, 2014, Life Church in Dodge City hosted their 3rd annual Big Ball Drop and New Year’s Eve Bash. The event featured live music from the band HopeAlive, retro indoor putt-putt golf, an inflatable castle for the little ones, free gift giveaways, hot chocolate and s’mores – all free of charge! Bonfires were scattered throughout the area, where people stood and roasted marshmallows, visited with friends and stayed warm.

The highlight of the night was the gigantic ball drop and fireworks that rang in the New Year. As the crowd counted down in unison, the massive ball – 12 feet in diameter – was slowly dropped, landing at the bottom just as the clock struck midnight. Then suddenly, brilliant fireworks filled the sky and dazzled everyone for miles around. “Ooooohs and Ahhhhhs,” filled the entire area while everyone clapped and jumped as the fireworks blasted in the air. It was truly a sight to see.

“We’re out here just having a blast and loving our community,” said Chris Pettit, Development Pastor at Life Church. “We’re giving everyone an opportunity to come out and have fun on New Year’s in a family atmosphere. It gives people something to do. It’s a big thing for us to put on, and it’s a lot of fun for everyone who comes out here.”

People of all ages had a blast at the Ball Drop. Parents followed their children around as the tots played putt-putt, jumped in the castle, made silly New Year’s hats and danced like there was no one watching. Teenagers dotted the area, munching on snacks and giggling with their buddies. Church volunteers were scattered about, manning their booths and lending a helping hand to anyone in need. It was truly a loving, God-filled time.

“Our statement is Live Life Forward,” Pettit explained. “We’re all about moving beyond your past; moving toward that great plan that God has for your life.”

There were a lot of first time visitors to the Ball Drop; all had a great time and promised to come back again next year.

“The ball was so pretty,” said Andria Busby, smiling from the crowd. “The fireworks were amazing too! I will definitely come back again next time, this was awesome!”

“The music was my favorite part of the night,” said Emily Edmonds. “This was my first time to come and I plan to come back,” she giggled.
