HANCEVILLE – Hanceville Fire Department responded to a self-contained fire at an unused concession stand at the old soccer field on the Wallace State campus Saturday morning.

Wallace State campus police officer Shane Drake noticed smoke from the building at around 8:10 a.m. It is thought that the fire began on the back (westernmost) side of the small wood paneled facility shortly before 8 a.m.

The building sustained considerable damage, with much of the interior and roof completely destroyed by the time the fire was extinguished.

According to Police Chief Tyler Roden, electricity was running to the building, which had been used for storage of files scheduled for destruction and equipment. At no time was there any threat to students or personnel on campus. An investigation will be conducted to try to determine the exact cause of the fire.
