LOACHAPOKA, Ala. – Evan McCay scored both of Meek’s touchdowns Friday night, but Loachapoka built a 21-point first-quarter lead and defeated the Tigers 55-14 in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs. Meek finished 7-4, ending a five-game winning streak.

Loachapoka took the opening kickoff and capped a six-play drive with a touchdown pass off play action.

The Indians intercepted a pass on Meek’s first possession and took over at their own 46-yard line.

Running back Lareaco Echols finished the ensuing drive with a touchdown run.

Meek punted on its next possession, and Loachapoka added its third touchdown before the first quarter ended.

Neither team scored in the second, leaving the Indians ahead 21-0 at halftime.

McCay, Meek’s senior quarterback, ran for a touchdown early in the third quarter. The 2-point attempt failed, leaving the Tigers down 21-6.

Loachapoka scored on its next four possessions and led 48-6 entering the fourth.

McCay scored his second touchdown in the final quarter. Meek added the 2-point conversion, and Loachapoka scored 7 points in the period for the 55-14 final.

The Tigers earned the third seed in Region 7 with a 5-2 region record.

They beat Waterloo, Belgreen, Phillips and Red Bay before closing the regular season with a 38-28 win at Berry.

Loachapoka, the Region 6 runner-up, improved to 9-2 and advanced to the second round.
