HANCEVILLE, Ala. — The Hanceville City Council approved several measures involving infrastructure, community events and local organizations during its Sept. 10 meeting.
The Council authorized Mayor Nolan Bradford to enter into an agreement with the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) regarding special funding that will allow remaining grant funds to be used for drainage and sidewalk improvements. Approximately $20,000 remains in the grant.
The Council also approved a tax abatement for ZincFast. Look for a separate story soon.
Council members approved a measure allowing the mayor to pardon individuals with previous travel warrants as part of a warrant amnesty effort. Look for a separate story soon.
The Shirley Burden Public Library was allotted a budget of approximately $750 for T-shirts to be used for a library fundraiser.
The Council also approved a request from the Historic Preservation Committee to replace the downtown historic sign with a larger sign. The replacement will come at no cost to the city.
A $500 donation to the Cullman County Veterans Day Celebration was approved.
The Council approved street closures for the Mud Creek Arts & Crafts Festival, scheduled for Nov. 7, in downtown Hanceville. The closures will include Commercial Street, Church Street, Bangor Street and a portion of Boyd Street. Proceeds from the festival will benefit the schools and city. Council members also approved a budget of up to $3,000 to replace the lettering on the Donald Hamby Park sign with more durable lettering.
Appointments and terms for the Events and Community Development Committee were also established. Mariah Hicks was appointed to Place 1 for a one-year term, Beth Ellis to Place 2 for a one-year term, Brianna Powell to Place 3 for a one-year term, Morgan Wasilewski to Place 4 for a two-year term and Yara Reynolds to Place 5 for a two-year term.
The next Hanceville City Council meeting will be Sept. 24, immediately following the 6 p.m. work session at Hanceville City Hall.
