CULLMAN, Ala. – Week one of the high school football season gave us thrillers like Fairview’s comeback win at West Point and statement wins like Addison’s 48-0 blowout over Winston County. While 1-0 Holly Pond will take their early bye week, there’s plenty of reason to believe week two will be just as exciting, with Cold Springs starting their 2026 campaign at home vs. a county foe and, most notably, Cullman hosting the Hartselle Tigers. Here’s a look at the full week two slate:
(1-0) Addison vs. (0-0) Lynn : Coming off their 48-0 road thrashing of Winston County, the Bulldogs will kick off their home schedule against Lynn, who’s yet to play a game this season. The Bears finished 4-6 last season, and will be tasked with slowing down a red-hot Addison offense led by quarterback Elijah Roberts.
On the matchup with Lynn, Addison head coach Mark Hastings said, “We know we have got to clean up some things to beat a very good Lynn team. We played well in some areas last Friday but made too many mistakes. These county games mean a lot to both communities and our team understands that. Hopefully we can get all three phases working and get the win.”
(0-1) Meek vs. (0-1) Winston County : The Meek Tigers will settle back into Class 1A competition this week after falling 42-14 to 3A Curry in their season opener. They’ll take on another team that suffered a steep loss, with Winston dropping their season opener 48-0 to Addison.
“Friday will be like all Winston County matchups, real physical. Coach Simmons does a great job getting his guy ready to play football. It will be a great matchup for us. We are excited to get back on the field,” Tigers head coach Daniel Evans said.
(0-0) Cold Springs vs. (1-0) Vinemont : The Cold Springs Eagles will open their 2026 campaign with a county foe in Vinemont that cruised to a 48-0 win over Falkville last week. While they’re led by new quarterback Ethan Day, Cold Springs’ offense is capable of keeping pace if they can play similar to last season, when they averaged almost 36 points per game.
“We are excited to get the season going. Vinemont is a very good football team who plays extremely physical. Our players have worked hard this off season and are looking forward to representing their school and community this season,” Cold Springs head coach Brendan Voce said.
(0-1) Hanceville @ (1-0) Tanner : The Hanceville Bulldogs are searching for their first win in nearly two calendar years, and will need a sharp turnaround from their first performance to break that streak this week. In Cody Sellers’ first game as head coach, Hanceville fell to Carbon Hill 59-28, and will need their defense to step up to slow down a Tanner team that put up 41 points in their season-opening win.
“We found out our strengths and weaknesses this past Friday. We are looking to fix our issues and build on our strengths. Tanner has a good program and a great coaching staff,” Sellers said.
(0-1) Good Hope @ (0-1) Brewer : After their close loss to Plainview last week, Good Hope has a chance to even their record with a trip to Somerville on Friday. In their first game, A.P. Brewer dropped a 46-0 contest to Priceville, and running back Karson Hollis and the Raiders’ offense will look to take advantage of their defense again this week.
(1-0) Fairview vs. (0-1) Hayden : After their stunning fourth-quarter comeback at West Point, the Aggies will look to keep building momentum in their first region game of the season vs. Hayden, who fell 35-8 at home vs. Glencoe in week one.
“Hayden is a solid team. They are well coached, and will be a good matchup for us this week. It should be a great atmosphere at Dafford Smith Stadium with this being our first home game and the first region game,” said the Aggies’ head coach Brian Simmons.
(0-1) West Point @ (1-0) Cleburne County : On the other side of Fairview’s comeback were the Warriors, who will have to travel two hours east to Cleburne County to take on the Tigers and a defense that blanked Etowah in their 21-0 victory last week.
On this week’s matchup, head coach Kevin McCravy said, “Our focus this week is bouncing back after a tough loss, fixing the mistakes we made, and finishing.”
(0-1) Cullman vs. (1-0) Hartselle : The Bearcats have an opportunity to wipe out all hard feelings from last week’s close loss at Boaz. They’ll welcome rival Hartselle to Oliver Woodard Stadium on Friday, and will have to fight to defy a 9-22 mark in their last 31 against the Tigers.
“We’re obviously disappointed to play well early against Boaz and then down the stretch not be able to make the plays necessary to walk away with a win in the season opener. Now we must quickly turn our attention to a Hartselle program that continues to be the standard of consistency in North Alabama high school football. They are big and physical, don’t beat themselves on either side of the ball and put the pressure on you to go beat them. It has been a while since we have played a non-region contest (2017) but Coach Newton and I felt strongly about continuing to play this great rivalry game for our two communities,“ head coach Trent Walker said.
