CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman City Schools Foundation marked its 30th anniversary during its 15th annual Distinguished Alumni & Service Awards brunch on Tuesday, April 21, at Loft 212.
The Foundation donated $1,050 to the Cullman Middle School Piano Recital from the Tony Brock Music Fund, which helps maintain the school’s piano lab equipment.
CMS Band Director Linda Bean said the piano lab program is uncommon across the country and gives students special opportunities, including advanced study in high school and chances to work with colleges. “We’re one of the few schools in the nation that has a program like this,” Bean said.
Dr. Jay Page (Class of 1987) and Ray Oaks (Class of 1958) were recognized with Distinguished Service Awards for their longtime dedication to the school system.
Page is retiring after 35 years in education, including 13 years as principal at West Elementary.
Oaks was honored for his work as a substitute teacher and for the support and kindness he shows to students. “Don’t settle for anything but your best,” Oaks told students.
The Foundation also named Unsung Heroes from across the district: Jeanmarie Yearwood, Leigh Ann Busby, Dr. Richard Dodd, Katie Smith and Kathy Hacker.
The 2025-2026 Teachers of the Year are Caroline Tidmore (Cullman City Primary School), Michelle Greenlee (Cullman High School), Morgan Johnston (Cullman Middle School), Lacy Cameron (East Elementary School) and Kristy White (West Elementary School).
Dr. Elizabeth Shaddix (Class of 2005) received the Distinguished Alumni Award for her ongoing service to the district.
Dr. Ann Carol Braswell (Class of 2017) was honored as Promising Alumni for her accomplishments in the medical field.
Foundation President Maegan Tucker said the organization remains dedicated to improving educational opportunities and supporting teachers and students throughout Cullman City Schools.
“The Foundation’s vision and mission has continued to provide students and teachers with what they need to meet the students where they are,” Tucker said.
