Elda Owens Shedd passed on March 20, 2026, at the age of 95; she was born on March 22, 1930, and was a resident of Vinemont, Alabama.

She is preceded in death by her Husband, James T. Shedd, and two sons.

She was born of John Frank Owens and Sudie Mae Mattox.

She was one of 7 children, including a twin sister. Her parents were sharecroppers, and she grew up in the cotton fields alongside her siblings.

She married at age 18 to James T. Shedd, and had 12 children. She was a devoted wife and mother, who experienced the loss of her first child, but then went on to raise 11 children, 8 boys, and 3 girls, who blessed her with many grandkids, great grandkids, and great great grandkids, both by birth and “bonus” babies. She loved them all, and instilled a strong work ethic while working alongside her children on the farm when they were old enough.

She was a spitfire, but had to be with that many kids, particularly boys. She loved to fish, play volleyball, play Rook, and dominoes. Her favorite meal was pizza and beer, and she loved muscadine wine.

She had a slow, easy spirit about her, was not one to say a lot, and was not one to be loud.

Her special talent in her later years was hand embroidery, and she continued in that skill until she became unable to, just a few weeks ago. She was steadfast in her beliefs and she was ready to go home.

The family will receive friends for a visitation from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at Moss Service Funeral Home Chapel. Mrs. Elda’s Celebration of Life will be at Mt. Vernon FCM Church, 3099 Co. RD. 1069, Vinemont, AL 35179 on Wednesday, 03/25/2026 at 2 p.m.
