CULLMAN, Ala. – Whitaker is a red heeler, approximately 2 years old, with a medium to high energy level and an unusually quiet presence that sets him apart. He’s The Cullman Tribune Pet of the Week.
Whitaker carries himself with an attentive, thoughtful demeanor and is currently brushing up on his leash etiquette as he continues to learn and grow. He takes a genuine interest in the world around him, greeting people with a warm smile and a happy, wagging tail.
Whitaker notices everything, not in an anxious way, but with curiosity and calm awareness. It is easy to imagine him as a steady companion on long walks, trail hikes or quiet evenings where loyalty matters more than noise.
He is the quintessential companion and hiking buddy, the kind of dog who stays in step with you, watches your cues and seems content simply being present.
“I love his attentive demeanor,” said a shelter volunteer.
Whitaker’s adoption fee is $130, which helps cover his vaccinations, neuter procedure, microchip and basic veterinary care.
Visit the Cullman County Animal Shelter at 935 Convent Road NE. It’s open Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. If Whitaker has already found his forever home, he has plenty of friends still waiting at the shelter, all hoping for the same chance at a family of their own.
