PREP FOOTBALL: Vinemont drops region game at Winfield, 47-7

WINFIELD, Ala. – Vinemont traveled to Winfield to face the Pirates in their final regular season game but unfortunately it was a tough night for the injury plagued Eagles. Vinemont went into the locker room trailing 33-7 at halftime and the Pirates tacked on two more scores in the second half to pull away with a 47-7 win.

Vinemont forced a turnover on downs to start the game but fumbled the ball away on fourth down, Winfield found the end zone late in the first quarter to go up 6-0. A quick turnover gave the Pirates the ball back, they quickly found the endzone to go up 14-0 early in the second quarter. Midway through the second quarter Winfield added to their lead going up 21-0.

14 unanswered points gave the Pirates a 33-0 lead late in the first half. On the first play of the ensuing possession Josh Rhodes found the end zone from 66 yards out to cut the lead to 33-7 with less than a minute remaining until halftime.

The Pirates outscored the Eagles 14-0 in the second half to pull away and win it 47-7.

Vinemont (6-4) will now turn its attention to the first round of the 3A state playoffs in two weeks.
