Alpha M. Wallace, 85, of Decatur, passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2026.
Born on September 8, 1940, in Lawrence County, Alabama, Alpha was the daughter of the late Alfred Glenn Stokes and Kerena Steadman Stokes. She dedicated 44 years of service as an underwriter with Mutual Insurance Company, where she was known for her hard work and commitment. Alpha was a woman of deep faith and a devoted member of Cave Springs Baptist Church. She faithfully read her Bible each day and found great joy in serving the Lord throughout her life.
Her love of music began at an early age when, at just 12 years old, she served as music director at her church while her 10-year-old sister accompanied her on the piano. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, working crossword puzzles, and attending tractor shows with her late husband, Waymon. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren, who brought her immense joy. Growing up on a family farm, Alpha learned the value of hard work and often believed that hard work was one of life’s greatest expressions of love.
In addition to her parents, Alpha was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert “Bob” Johnson and Waymon Wallace; and her sisters, Bunita Stokes Morgan and Lockie Stokes Woodard. She is survived by her son, Glenn Johnson; stepchildren, Melissa (Lynn Williams) Wallace and Wesley (Megan) Wallace; grandsons, Dylan Johnson and Skyler Keeton; step-grandson, Andrew (Kate) Wallace; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will cherish her memory.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Impact Church of Decatur, 1701 Carridale Street SW, Decatur, Alabama, with Pastor Sandra Locke-Godbey officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery in Decatur. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the church.
Decatur Brown Service Funeral Home is honored to serve the Wallace Family.
