Joe was raised in Crane Hill, Alabama, and graduated from Cullman High School in 1954. He went on to attend the University of Alabama, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial arts and later a master’s degree in education administration.

Following his education, Joe started a career in education that spanned more than a decade. He taught wood shop, history, and drafting at Cullman Middle School, where his patience and passion for learning left a lasting impact on countless students. His unwavering dedication to education eventually led him to serve as assistant principal at Cullman Middle School, a role in which he mentored both students and fellow educators.

In 1956, Joe married Wynelle Parker, and together they raised three children: Rhonda, Cindy, and Roger. In 1970, Joe entered a new professional chapter when he joined State Farm Insurance. He built a successful career spanning more than 30 years, becoming a trusted advisor, loyal friend, and respected member of the community. He was admired for his integrity, strong work ethic, and compassion toward all he met. Joe married Connie Killian in 1989 and gained four stepdaughters, Teresa, Kelly, Mimi, and Michele, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and family devotion.

A proud Alabama alumnus, Joe loved all things Crimson Tide. He traveled across the country in his RV to cheer on his alma mater and cherished every moment of the adventures along the way. He also enjoyed rebuilding vintage cars, working in his shop after work most evenings, and boating on the Gulf, Smith Lake, and Guntersville Lake. Joe was a devoted member of First Church of the Nazarene and Cornerstone Nazarene Church. His deep faith in God guided his life and shaped his kindness, generosity, and enduring love for family and friends.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Ethel Brown. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Connie Brown; his children Roger Brown, Cindy Brown, and Rhonda Dennison (Frank); his stepchildren Teresa Carden (Forrest), Kelly Kahle (Steve), Mimi Rasche (David), and Michele Gray (John); along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched with quiet humility, generosity, and leadership.
