Jodie, beloved wife, daughter, mother, and Nana, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at 10:18 a.m., just two days shy of her 53rd birthday. Her passing leaves an irreplaceable void in the hearts of her family and all who knew her.
Born in Hollywood, Florida, on September 23, 1972, Jodie devoted her life to caring for others. She was a proud and loving mother, and nothing brought her more joy than being a Nana—her grandchildren were the light of her life.
Jodie and her husband, Shane Smith, were high school sweethearts who built a life full of love and devotion. Married for 33 years, they raised two children and shared the joy of three beautiful grandchildren. Her love for family was unwavering, and her nurturing spirit extended beyond her home. Jodie dedicated many years to serving the children of her community through her work in the cafeteria at Fairview School, where she was a familiar and comforting presence to countless students.
Jodie is survived by her loving husband, Shane Smith; daughter, Morgan Shirley; son, Colton (Kennedy) Smith; mother, June McGriff; sister, Jacqueline Martin; and her cherished grandchildren: Carson Shane Smith, Ashlynn Shirley, and Brynlee Shirley. She is also survived by her in-laws: Vick (Wendy) Smith and Sheila (Steve) Cahela, as well as a host of extended family and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Bobby McGriff; brother, Anthony McGriff; grandparents: Walter (Dimple) McGriff, Hubert (Inez) Reynolds, and Momma Mae Rodgers.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Moss-Service Funeral Home, followed by a Celebration of Life service. Graveside committal will take place at Flint Creek Cemetery, 3048 Co Rd 1354, Vinemont, AL 35179.
