Obituary: Henry Charles Guthery, Sr.

Henry Charles Guthery Sr. was born November 25, 1942 in Logan, Alabama to Charles “Charlie” Guthery and Virginia Gallimore Guthery. He died at Woodland Village Nursing Home on July 3, 2024 at the age of 81. Henry owned Henry C Guthery Metal Co for over 55 years. He loved singing Sacred Harp Music. 

He was the director of the Cullman County Sacred Harp Convention for many years. His favorite hobby was gardening and he affectionately called his family farm “Paradise Valley.” He lived on the original Guthery Homestead for almost 80 years. 

He is preceded in death by his wife of 40 years Sherry Lee Kimble Guthery, His Parents: Charlie Guthery and Virginia Gallimore, and brothers: William “Bill” Guthery and Earnest Guthery. 

He is survived by his sister Beatrice (Jim) Aaron, 3 sons: Henry Guthery Jr, Rodney Guthery, and Scott (Charity) Guthery, 7 

Grandchildren: Austin (Jennifer) Guthery, Henry (Kilsy) Guthery Ill, Jessica (Tyler) Phillips, Andrew (Kelly) Guthery, Logan (Jayden) Guthery, Samuel Guthery, and Isaac “Scooter” Guthery, 

10 Great Grandchildren: Pyper Guthery, Charlie Guthery, Avery Phillips, Asher Camp Phillips, Abigail Guthery, Audrey Guthery, Nellie Guthery, Kolt Guthery, KT Guthery, and Henry Guthery IV, a host of Sacred Harp Singers, And his unofficially adopted son Eliseo Loreto. 

A Celebration of Life and Sacred Harp Singing will be held at Branded By Christ Cowboy Church in Hanceville, Alabama on July 15th at 5 p.m. in the afternoon. At Henry’s request we will have a Barbeque in his honor after the service.
