Obituary: Melba Kay Pigg

Melba Kay Pigg, age 90 of the Sardis Community, Alabama, passed away Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Cullman Regional Center surrounded by her loved ones.  

Kay was born on December 17, 1933, to Artris and Vashti Allcorn. She was a member of Sardis No. 2 Missionary Baptist Church; Kay was a cheerleader and a graduate of the class of 1952 at Addison High School. She loved “all things” Addison Bulldogs and Alabama Crimson Tide. She rarely missed a game at Addison. Kay was a 50-year member of the “Lady Democrats” and was known for her famous “squash patties’ and chocolate cake. 

Visitation will be Tuesday, May 21, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Sardis No. 2 Missionary Baptist Church in the Sardis Community, where the service will be held Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. She will lie in state from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00p.m. at the Church. Burial will be at the adjoining cemetery. Brother William McClellan and Brother David Miller will officiate.  

Pallbearers will be Tony Little, Ethan Little, Brendan Voce, Eli Voce, Aiden Stewart, Breydon Hallmon, Jon Gaither, Silas Hallmon, Barrett Gaither, and Brad Atkins 

Kay is survived by her children, Phyllis (Wayne) Little, Dianne Voce, Gordon “Bubba” (Jan) Pigg, Mitchell Pigg, and Ellen Pigg; sister, Ava McCurley; grandchildren, Tony (Jennifer) Litte, Jaime (Brad) Atkins, Tabatha Fuller, Jake Pigg, Brendan (Cantrice) Voce, Emily Voce, Katey Hallmon, and Maryellen (Jon) Gaiter; and 14 great grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon “Billy” Pigg; parents, Artris and Vashti Allcorn; brothers, Douglas Allcorn, Dellace Allcorn, Robin Allcorn, and Gary Allcorn; and daughter-in-law, Marlene Pigg 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Sardis Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund (392 County Road 80 Addison, Al 35540)
