John Gary Denton, age 69, of Addison, passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2023, with his wife, Donna by his side.
He was born Dec. 26, 1953 in Hartselle, Alabama to John and Naythene Denton. Gary retired from Nucor Steel after over 20 years of service.
Those who knew Gary, knew him to be a friendly person who never met a stranger. He could speak on almost any subject. Gary was a devoted husband and a wonderful father to his adopted son, Adam. He was a man of great patience and spent many hours reading to Adam. Gary enjoyed a well-kept lawn, but his passion in life was bass fishing. He was a modest man who believed in self-discipline and hard work. His shoes cannot be filled and he will be desperately missed by those who loved him. Gary trusted Christ as his Savior and was ready for Heaven.
Visitation will be Sunday, Sep. 3, 2023 from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church in the Upshaw Community, where the service will begin at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. Brother Donnie Carroll will officiate.
Gary is survived by his wife of 23 years, Donna Denton; son, Adam Denton; sisters, Charlene (Ray) Nix and Tammy (Vic) Banks; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Travis Denton; mother, Naythene Meigs Denton; and baby sister, Sharon Denton.
