Obituary: Sonya DeAnne Leonard

Sonya DeAnne Leonard, 57, of Vinemont, Alabama, (previously of Holly Pond, Alabama) passed away on Friday evening, Oct. 21, 2022. Sonya was born in Blount County, Alabama, to Joseph Franklin and Carol Opa Lee Waters Privett, on Jan. 28, 1965.

Ms. Leonard worked many years in the farming industry. She was a chicken farmer and she loved selling fruits, vegetables, and other wares because of the many friendships she made with those who stopped to buy her goods. Sonya never met a stranger, and she was a very loving and outgoing person. Sonya also enjoyed crafting, yard sales, antiques, and going out. Ms. Leonard was an adopted Nanny and Mimi to several sweet babies, and she will be missed by them, as well as the friends and loved ones who had become family to her.

Ms. Leonard is preceded in death by her parents: Joseph Franklin and Carol Opa Lee Waters Privett.

Sonya is survived by her husband: James E. Hooper; son: Joseph Snow; daughter: Tonya Leonard; brother: Sammy Waters; sister: Shelia Wilhite (Jimmy); dear friends: Jessica Lamons, Belinda Mann, Jeffery Holmes, Matthew James; and several adopted at heart grandbabies.

Funeral services for Ms. Sonya are 2 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2022, in the Holly Pond Funeral Home Chapel. Jeff Holmes, Dakota Lamons, Danny Talley, Matthew James, James Hooper, and Rebel will serve as pallbearers. Friends are invited to visit with the family on Monday evening, Oct. 24, 2022, at the funeral home, from 6 until 8 p.m.
