Obituary: Nellie Cooper McGehee

Nellie Cooper McGehee, 94 of Double Springs, entered into rest on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at Lakeland Community Hospital in Haleyville.

Nellie was born on February 17, 1928 in Addison to Kohen and Erine Bell McDonald. She loved her family and friends. She loved to read and watch westerns. On pretty days when she was able, she loved to sit on the porch and watch the birds and squirrels eat and play.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Nichols Funeral Home in Double Springs, where services will be at 12:00 p.m. Vance Hutton and Brother Bill Frank Wilson will officiate. Burial will be in Kelly Mill Cemetery.

Survivors include daughters: Dianne Dutton and Patricia (Steve) Turner; daughter-in-law: Jayne Ward (Jack Bolinger); grandchildren: Anthony (Wanda) Dutton, Rhonda (Robert) Morrow, Allen (Carla) Ward, Tim (Vicki) Cockrell and Vanessa (Dustin) Rice and a host of stepchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, as well as honorary sons: Billy Sutherland and Ronnie Cockrell and honorary sister: Ann Hood.

Preceded in death by parents: Kohen and Erine McDonald; husbands: Simon Ward, Ottis Cooper and Dorcie McGehee; son: Danny Ward; son-in-law: Frank Dutton; sister: Inez Knight Inis Johnson and Judy Tornibene and brothers: Blake McDonald, Walker McDonald and Melvin McDonald.
