Obituary: Lois Mae Smith Overton

Lois Mae Smith Overton of Double Springs, formerly of Jasper, went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at the age of 91. She passed away at Hendrix Health Care in Double Springs, Alabama.

Lois was born on March 3, 1930 in Pisgah, Alabama. She was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. She loved to cross stitch, crochet, cook, fish, sew and canning food. Mrs. Overton retired from Ridgewood Health Center in Jasper, Alabama.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 19, 2021 from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Nichols Funeral Home – Double Springs, where funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Brother Jeff Long will officiate.

Lois is survived by her daughter: Doris Overton Bell (Dwight); stepson: Ken Overton; son-in-law: Don Humphries; grandchildren: Shannon Bell (James), Jodi Bell Daniel, Thomas Bell and Amanda Humphries (Jamie); great-grandchildren: Trey Daniel (Molly), Stormie Bell (Mason), Riley Rice, Xander Bell and Chason Humphries (Amara); great-great-grandchild: Cooper Daniel; special niece: Robbie Long and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Carl Overton; daughters: Joyce Overton Humphries and Denese Gay Overton; father: Johnny Smith; mother: Annie V. Smith and sisters: Lucille Ward and Emma “Billie” Lou Ward.
