    Obituary: Dorothy (“Dot”) Rickles

      On Dec. 14, 2020, Dorothy (“Dot”) Rickles, 89, of Baileyton passed away at her residence.

      Dot was born in Cullman County in 1933 to Stella and George Smith and graduated from Priceville High School. In addition to raising three children, Mrs. Rickles taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible School and was a Girl Scout leader for numerous years, was a substitute teacher, a skilled seamstress, and also a previous employee of The Cullman Tribune.

      She is predeceased by her parents; twin brother Thomas Earl Smith; five sisters Selma England, Reba DeForest, Martha Cox, Irene Handley, and Maxine Mayhall; and her first husband, Air Force Sergeant James Harold Winton.

      She is survived by her husband Jerry Rickles; son Byron and wife Sherry Winton; two daughters Robin Winton and Tammy Earwood; three grandsons Tyler and wife Kathryne Earwood (and a great-granddaughter on the way), Trenton Earwood, and Adam Netherton; two granddaughters Samantha Vest and Trinity Earwood; and son-in-law Tim Earwood.

      The family will hold a private service for Mrs. Rickles.
