Mrs. Laney was born Aug. 10, 1936 to Allie Henry and Itaska Nesmith Shumate.  She passed away Saturday, Nov. 14 at her residence.

It had been just over two years since she had her first stroke and she fought hard, but now her battle is over. She lived a long life with many happy moments with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also had tough moments, losing a daughter and a grandson far too young. She didn’t let these moments bring her down. We all admired her class and grace. Bobby Jean was an excellent seamstress. She was loved by so many and she will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter Cindy Sterling; grandson Scotty Laney; brother Mason Shumate; sister Betty Joyce Clemmons; and son-in-law Orville Kinney Quattlebaum.

Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Buel Laney; sons Billy Joe Laney and Josh (Chelsea) Sterling; daughters Palma Jean Quattlebaum, Tammie Susan (Randy) Parker, and Revonza Kay (Ralph) Tolbert; brother Thomas (Melissa) Shumate; sisters Martha Sue Wimberly and Rose Mary (R.B.) Woods; grandchildren Traundia (John) Lambert, Kelly Quattlebaum, Jeremy (Jennifer) Quattlebaum, Holly (Ty) Bogard, Erica (Griffin) Stanford, Michael Tolbert, Clint (Jesyka) Parker, Laney (Nate) Ayers, Andrea Parker, and Emma Lane Sterling; great-grandchildren Gaven, Colby, Kinsley, Gabe, Jazzlyn, Jaylie, Jovie, Parker, Walker, Charli, Aubrey, Finn, Millie, Sam, Ethan, and Lincoln; and a host of family and friends.
