Obituary: Tom Era Rowe

Tom Era Rowe, 102, of Double Springs entered into her rest Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Rowe was born July 3, 1918 in Houston, Alabama. She was a wonderful loving wife to her husband Johnny. Tom was multi-talented and gifted as a homemaker, caretaker, farmer, seamstress and gospel singer. She sung beautifully at hundreds of funerals, revivals, camp meetings and brush arbor meetings. Tom loved singing about her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was one of the singing Speers of Double Springs. She and her family sung at many street revivals, places like the Boutwell Auditorium and frequently on WVOK Birmingham. Tom was a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church for many years and was a very strong faithful inspiration to her family. She was a servant to all, a very loving person to her family, church family and many friends.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, July 25, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Houston Methodist Cemetery. Brothers Benny Knight and Jeff Wiggins will officiate.

Mrs. Rowe is survived by her sister Lena Belle (Speer) Henderson and husband Parnell; nieces June (Cliff) Aldridge, Era Jean Daniel, Bonnie (Benny) Knight, Lanette (Billy) Guyton, Lavann (Larry) Garren, and Sandra Miller; and nephews B.C. Speer, Boyd (Regina) Henderson, Bradley (Jennifer) Henderson, and Bentley (Debbie) Henderson.

She was preceded in death by her husband John Travis Rowe; parents Sam and Dora (Burdick) Speer; brothers Jim Speer, Burdick Speer and Jack Speer; sisters Georgia Belle Speer and Samuel Etta (Cee) Carter; and nephews Don Speer, Ricky Speer and Jack Ronald Speer.
