Shirley Gilliland, 78, of Haleyville passed away Feb. 5, 2020 at Haleyville Healthcare, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born May 2, 1941 in Fayette, Alabama.

Shirley began her career as a clerk for District Judge Robert Burleson. She worked for Haleyville City Schools for five years before returning to the judicial system where she served as Magistrate for Judge Burleson, Judge Ann Richardson and finally Judge Sam Masdon and also served as an election official. She retired Oct. 1, 2001. Shirley loved sewing, crocheting, quilting, gardening, long-distance yard sales and doting on her beloved grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Friday, Feb. 7, 2019 from noon-2 p.m. at Nichols Funeral Home in Haleyville, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Reverend Billy Gilliland will officiate. Burial will follow in Winston Memorial Cemetery in Haleyville, Alabama.

Shirley is survived by her husband of 54 years Larry Gilliland; children Christi (Brandon) Norris and Jenny (Mike) Bailey; grandchildren Adam (Emily) Edwards, Morgan Long, Drew Norris, Devin Norris, and Kaci (Adam) Loden; and great-grandchild due in March, Tucker Lee Edwards.

She was preceded in death by her father Sherman Tucker; mother Ila Johnson; step-father Andrew Johnson; brother Rudolph Tucker; step-sister and brother-in-law Betty and Mitchell Palmer; step-brother Frank Johnson; niece Michelle Palmer and nephew Randy Tucker.
