Obituary: Joe McDonald

Joe Craig McDonald, 69, of Double Springs entered into rest Tuesday, Aug.Aug. 6, 2019 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Joe was born Nov. 19, 1949 in Double Springs. He graduated from Winston County High School and was a lifelong member of Rock Creek Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and Sunday school teacher. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, receiving the Army Commendation Medal, as well as the U.S. Army Certificate of Achievement, for driving 20,000 miles accident free. After his time in the military, Joe worked for 37 years in Decatur at Monsanto-Solutia, where he worked until his retirement. He enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter, Elizabeth, and collecting marbles. He was known by many as “Jody Blond.”

Visitation will be Saturday, Aug. 10, 2019 from noon-2 p.m. at Nichols Funeral Home in Double Springs, where services will be at 2 p.m. Reverend Ray Bridgmon and Reverend Jimmy Collins will officiate. Burial will be in Rock Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Joe is survived by his wife of 47 years, Belendya Waid McDonald; son, Jamie Dee McDonald and his wife Donna; brothers, Royce Dee McDonald and his wife Joyce, and James Ronald McDonald and his wife Betty; sister, Janice Carolyn Lovett and her husband James O’neal; and “Paw Paw” to one granddaughter, Elizabeth McDonald.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dee and Hazel McDonald.
